Prescription Drug Take Back Day

More Americans currently abuse prescription drugs than cocaine, hallucinogens and heroin combined.

Addicts can often have easy access to the drugs, right inside their friends’ and families’ medicine cabinets.

In order to combat the trend, the Drug Enforcement Administration is holding a national Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

This is the second year the Michigan State Police are participating in the event.

Trooper Stacy Rasanen of the Negaunee Post says many people don’t know where or how to dispose of their unused medicine, so this is the best way to keep the medicine off the streets.

The drop-off is only intended for over-the-counter and prescription medication.

Officers are unable to dispose of any other types of medical supplies.

The Negaunee Post, the Forsyth Township Police and the Marquette City Police will be collecting medication from 10 until 2 on Saturday.
