Ishpeming Murder Update
Ishpeming Police release new information in what they say is a beating death in the city from Monday morning.
37-year-old Thomas Hyttinen had just met 43-year-old Carl Mercer of Negaunee for the first time Sunday night.
Police say the two of them went out drinking with a mutual friend.
After that, they went to Hyttinen’s apartment on North Fourth Street, where they’re believed to have continued drinking.
Sometime during the night, the two men got into a fight.
Police believe Hyttinen used excessive force on Mercer in the attack and they arrested him for 2nd-degree murder.
Hyttinen was arraigned Monday night and he’s being held in the Marquette County Jail on a million dollars bond.
He has a preliminary exam scheduled for April 25th in Marquette District Court.
