Finlandia Women\’s Hockey National Scholar Athletes

Hancock, MI. – April 4, 2011: Three members of the Finlandia University
Women\’s Hockey team were recently honored by the American Women\’s Hockey Coaches Association (AWHCA) for their academic excellence. Senior Alisha Ellertson (River Falls, WI.), Junior Mariah Mumford (Mt. Pleasant, MI.), and Sophomore Kelly Poelstra (Baltimore, ON.) were named 2010-2011 National Scholar Athletes.

The National Scholar Athlete Award is given to student-athletes who are in
good standing at their institution of choice for one year, have a cumulative
grade point average of 3.5 or higher for a minimum of two academic
semesters, and have dressed for 75 percent of their team\’s contests.

Ellertson has a 3.53 cumulative GPA and will graduate with a degree in
Criminal Justice from Finlandia. Mumford carries a 3.85 cumulative GPA in
Liberal Studies, and Poelstra holds a 3.91 cumulative GPA in Criminal
Justice.
