Marquette Schools Superintendent Search

Marquette’s search for a new school superintendent is moving along.

The job opening was posted publicly within the last week, so applications will soon start coming in.

Two retired former Dickinson County school superintendents, now working for Northstar Staffing in Iron Mountain, are helping in the search.

David Blomquist used to be superintendent in Kingsford and Richard Allen held the same job in Iron Mountain.

MAPS school board president Tony Retaskie says he and the other board members are very pleased with the job Northstar has done so far, saying the board would have had a much more difficult time conducting the search by itself.

Interim Superintendent Debbie Veiht has expressed interest in the permanent job.

The goal is to have the new superintendent on the job by July 1st.

Next up – a board work session about the search in 2 more weeks.

Retaskie says that works out well with the timing since the application deadline is April 15th.

Blomquist and Allen will also have a meeting with the school board on May 2nd to narrow down the applicant pool to the people who should be interviewed.
