North Lakeshore Blvd. Special Assessment

Residents of one Marquette neighborhood will soon receive something they’ve been waiting decades for.

The Marquette City Commission has approved a special assessment for water line work, sewer line work and road reconstruction.

It would take place on the 3000 block of North Lakeshore Boulevard — an area with water pressure much lower than other residential areas in the city.

Many residents own and maintain their own septic tanks for that reason.

Some other residents said they were part of the second generation of residents in that neighborhood waiting for this move.

And some said the move will boost the whole neighborhood’s quality of life.

The work will cost $2.8 million, but the special assessment will be for much less — residents will be paying about $145,000.

The City Commission must have one more public hearing on March 28th before their action tonight becomes official.
