First Blast of Winter in Central U.P.

It took a while for winter to gear up, but it’s definitely arrived.

A lake effect snow warning is in effect in the central U.P. until 7pm tomorrow.

The National Weather Service is expecting additional accumulations of up to a foot of snow over portions of eastern Marquette County and western Alger County.

The heaviest snow is expected to be east of Marquette and Harvey.

That’s been borne out in school cancellations today.

Munising and Superior Central schools called off classes for today.

And along with the snow — a stiff wind.

Northwest winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour could produce blowing and drifting snow, particularly near Lake Superior.
