Federal Grant for Ishpeming Wind Turbine

It’s taken a lot longer than anyone thought.

But the massive wind turbine at the Pioneer Bluff Apartments in Ishpeming is slowly taking shape.

A downstate company, MTI, is building it at no cost to the city or the apartment complex.

MTI says they’ve just received a federal grant from the Department of Energy to help them complete the project.

They say they’ll have more details about it next week.

When they do, we’ll have them for you here on ABC 10.

The turbine isn’t fully functional yet, but the company says it should be before winter.

It was originally supposed to be finished in August 2006.

Financial problems and lawsuits halted the project for several years.
