It’s been a day of white-knuckle driving across much of the U.P. today as thick fog blanketed the area.

Several minor weather-and-visibility-related accidents have been reported across the area.

The fog is part of a weather system that also involves a National Weather Service flood watch.

The watch extends through Friday night.

It covers all of Baraga, Iron, Marquette, Gogebic and Ontonagon counties, as well as southern Houghton County.

Total rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected this afternoon and into friday morning.

Rain will be heavy at times.

Runoff from this significant rainfall will cause river levels to rise, and may cause flooding to occur along area rivers, creeks and low lying areas.
