Young Eagles Air Academy

After the increase in security at airports, people lost sight of the connection between the pilot and the passenger.

But one project is hoping to bridge that gap by giving kids a chance to fly on their own.

Chapter 850 of the Experimental Aircraft Association just held a two-day Air Academy at Sawyer Airport for area teens.

In recent years, the local EAA chapter has offered these training programs to give kids a first hand look at aviation.

Ted Kirkpatrick of the EAA says interest in the Air Academy has grown over the years.

Generally the academy offers 10 slots, but this year 16 signed up to participate.
