The Michigan Department of State is trying to save money through reduced hours at a pair of U.P. branches.
Since March 1st, the Munising branch has been running on part-time hours.
The Munising branch is open from 9 to 5 on Mondays and from 11 to 7 on Wednesdays.
That branch shares a staff person with the Manistique branch, which is now on part-time hours as well.
The Manistique branch is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land says it’s going well so far.
It’s an attempt to use increasingly-limited resources as effectively as possible.
She says the Department of State has done this successfully elsewhere in the Lower Peninsula.
