Feds Approve Au Train Dam Sale
The Au Train Dam on M-94 is on its way to a new owner.
Earlier this year, UPPCO agreed to sell the dam to North American Hydro of Wisconsin.
And now, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has approved the sale.
The dam only powers a small portion of Alger County.
UPPCO learned that those customers wanted the dam to stay in operation, so general manager Keith Moyle says the sale should be good news.
The dam needs large-scale repairs to meet federal flood safety standards.
And that repair work will cost more than what the electricity the dam produces is worth.
North American Hydro has agreed to make those repairs.
The two companies expect to close the sale by mid-July.
There’s no word yet on what the sale price is.
