Hancock Arson Trial Begins

The Calumet man accused of killing 4 people last summer by setting his apartment building on fire is now on trial.

47-year-old Ronald Kemppainen’s trial started this morning in Houghton with jury selection.

He used to live in Hancock, and he’s accused of starting the fire that destroyed 116 Quincy Street last July.

Kemppainen could go to prison for life without parole if he’s convicted.

Witnesses have claimed he threatened to set the building on fire just a few hours before the blaze started.
