Charter Outage from Cut Fiber Line

It’s been a tough day for you if you get Internet or phone service from the U.P.’s leading cable provider.

Charter Communications had a major outage for several hours today affecting the entire Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin.

The problem turned out to be a fiber line near Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

That fiber line carries Internet and phone signals.

At about 12:30 this afternoon, a work crew for an electric company in that area cut the line accidentally.

Around ABC 10 News Now, we relied on our cell phones to stay connected to the Internet.

Charter Telephone service was also interrupted across the entire region.

Cable TV service wasn’t affected.

Repair crews in Stevens Point put the Internet and phone systems back in working order just after 3:30.
