DNRE Reinstates Burning Ban

Another fire call a few miles from the Anderson house fire made for some tense moments later in the morning.

A vehicle fire in Sands Township had the potential of spreading to nearby brush and trees.

A quick response by firefighters to that blaze on Miller Road, just off of M-553, kept the fire contained.

Here in the middle of the spring wildfire season, it’s even more apparent that the U.P. is in a drought situation.

The DNRE has issued a burning ban on open debris in all U.P. counties except for Marquette and Alger Counties.

You can go online anytime to: www.michigan.gov/burnpermit for the latest information.

The burn permit page on the website is updated each day around mid-morning.

The brush fire danger may continue into the weekend in spite of some rain in the forecast.
