Granholm to U.S. Supreme Court?

Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm is one of about a dozen names circulating as a candidate for the U.S. Supreme Court.

It would be as a replacement for retiring Justice John Paul Stevens.

Stevens turned 90 two days ago and plans to leave the bench this summer.

Granholm says she’s honored that she would be considered.

But she also acknowledged that she’d be an unusual choice for the high court because of her lack of judicial experience.

The idea of Granholm as a potential justice surprised many local people UGN News spoke with today.

Along with the fact that Granholm has never served on the bench in any court, Michigan’s current economic state has some people shaking their heads in disbelief that Granholm is a potential high court nominee.

Others tell us they’re concerned about her possible seat due to decisions she’s made about Michigan’s education system.

Granholm leaves office at the end of the year because of term limits.
