Drought Conditions Across U.P.

The outdoor burning ban will likely stay in effect across the area until we can get some more rain.

The National Weather Service in Negaunee Township says the U.P. is officially in a drought.

Forecaster Greg Michels says while the central U.P. is in a moderate drought, the western areas are seeing a severe one.

Lower-than-normal winter snowfall and an almost total lack of precipitation this spring has left most of the region very dry.

Since the start of the year, Michels says the western counties in the U.P. have received only 25% to 30% of precipitation that would be considered in the normal range.
