Severe Weather Awareness Week

You couldn’t ask for anything better from the weather lately.

But the beginning of spring also means the severe weather season is coming up.

Governor Jennifer Granholm has declared this week Severe Weather Awareness Week in Michigan.

The National Weather Service says last year, the U.P. saw its first thunderstorms in late April.

NWS meteorologist Steve Fleegel says it’s a good idea for your family to practice weather safety procedures for whenever a severe condition occurs.

The U.P. averages between 80 and 90 severe weather events a year.
