Major School Cuts Coming at Forest Park

Since the state legislature plans to greatly reduce public school funding next year, Michigan school districts are doing everything they can to prepare for the worst.

The Forest Park Schools in Crystal Falls need to cut more than $450,000 from its 2010-2011 school year budget.

Superintendent Thomas Jayne says more than 80% of the budget is related to personnel, which means layoffs and larger class sizes are very likely.

The district is looking into ways to generate more revenue by doing things like renting out empty school space and making other kinds of cuts.

But Jayne says plans are to keep all extracurricular activities and athletic programs going.

Forest Park will also eliminate its alternative education program, which was only created this school year.
