Inmates Attack C.O.’s at Alger Prison

4 C.O.’s at the Alger Correctional Facility are recovering after being attacked by inmates.

The state Department of Corrections says it happened at about 4:30 Sunday afternoon in a common area at the prison.

The corrections officers were seriously hurt, with facial and head wounds.

But none of their injuries were life-threatening.

The Department says one specific inmate went after a C.O. and then several other inmates followed.

The prison’s name might not be familiar because it’s not officially called Alger Max anymore.

It was downgraded from a Level 5 facility to a Level 4 prison last June, so it’s no longer a maximum-security facility.
