Knife Assault Case Moves Forward

A judge decides there’s enough evidence against a Marquette man for him to stand trial for a knife assault.

43-year-old Suranit Imsumran had his preliminary exam late this afternoon.

His next court appearance is a Circuit Court arraignment on April 1st.

The assault is said to have happened February 26th.

Imsumran is accused of breaking into a woman’s apartment on Whetstone Road in Marquette while wearing a mask and brandishing a knife.

The woman fought off her attacker and stabbed him in the process.

NMU Public Safety found Imsumran, and his vehicle, at the Wal-Mart in Marquette Township.

He’s charged with assault with intent to commit murder; 1st-degree home invasion; and criminal sexual conduct – assault with intent to commit sexual penetration.

He’s being held on $2 million bond.
