College students from across North America are in the Copper Country this week for the annual Society of Automotive Engineers Clean Snowmobile Challenge.

UGN’s Mike Stark was there for the first fuel efficiency competition today.

With fuel prices always a threat to rise, it’s important to create more fuel-efficient vehicles.

That’s exactly what college students are doing this week at Michigan Tech’s Keweenaw Research Center for the Clean Snowmobile Challenge.

Students from Michigan Tech, Wisconsin, Idaho, Maine and even Canada spent months taking apart their machines and prepping them for the competition.

The teams put their snowmobiles through an endurance test today.

They present their designs tomorrow while testing emission levels later in the week.
