Chassell School Superintendent Retiring

One of the school districts in the Keweenaw needs to find a new superintendent.

Chassell superintendent Mike Gaunt is retiring at the end of June after having the job since 2006.

He said that at a school board meeting last night, urging school board members to restructure the district’s administration.

The school board expects to have a system in place within the next month.

Chassell is already planning to share a superintendent with Adams Township starting this fall.

The move will save about $50,000 a year.

The Adams Township Schools are already using a 4-day week through the end of this month to cut costs.

They’re taking Fridays off, lengthening the other 4 days and lengthening the school year too.

No word on whether Chassell may join them in doing that in the future.
