MarqTran Gets $1.5 Million in Stimulus Aid

Several local transportation agencies will receive federal stimulus grants to take care of needed upgrades to bus service.

The Marquette County Transit Authority will see nearly $1.5 million come its way.

That’ll pay for 2 new buses, an improved security camera system and energy improvements to MarqTran facilities.

MarqTran executive director DeLynn Klein says the money is from Phase 2 of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act after the agency was unable to get any funding from Round 1.

About $70,000 of the stimulus money will go to operating costs.

That’ll cover 2% of MarqTran’s operating budget for the year.
