Assault Prelim Postponed

The preliminary exam in a Marquette assault case is postponed.

43-year-old Suranit Imsumran was supposed to have the prelim today.

But an attorney scheduling conflict has pushed it back.

There’s no new date yet.

Imsumran is accused of breaking into a woman’s apartment on Whetstone Road in Marquette 2 weeks ago while wearing a mask and brandishing a knife.

The woman fought him off, stabbing him in the process.

City police say Imsumran fled the scene.

But NMU Public Safety found him and his vehicle at the Marquette Township Wal-Mart store.

Imsumran is charged with assault with intent to commit murder, 1st-degree home invasion and criminal sexual conduct – assault with intent to commit sexual penetration.

He’s being held on $2 million bond.
