Tech\’s Jojnacki Named GLIAC Player of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. — Men\’s basketball sophomore Mike Hojnacki (Milwaukee, Wis./Eisenhower) was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Player of the Week today for his performance in Michigan Tech\’s final two games of the season last week. He is Tech\’s third different men\’s player to gain the honor this season.

Hojnacki turned in back-to-back double-doubles and averaged 22.0 points and 11.5 rebounds as the Huskies split their final two games of 2009-10. The 6-7 forward posted 19 points and a game-high 13 rebounds in a 61-58 victory over Lake Superior State Thursday (Feb. 25). His jumper and free throw turned out to be the game-winning points. Against Saginaw Valley State Saturday (Feb. 27), Hojnacki poured in a game-high 25 points to go with 10 rebounds. He scored four of the team\’s final five points to pull with 64-63 before losing 70-64. Hojnacki shot 16-of-30 from the field including 7-of-15 from 3-point range.

In the final eight games of the season, Hojnacki averaged 18.5 points and 6.8 rebounds while shooting 53.3 percent from the field. Tech went 5-3 in those contests.

The other Tech men\’s basketball players of the week this season were Tyler Molesworth (Mesa Ariz./Mesa CC) on Nov. 23 and Ali Haidar (Windsor, Ont./Forster) on Jan. 11.

The Michigan Tech men\’s basketball team concluded its 2009-10 campaign with a 9-18 overall record.
