U.P. 200 Vet Check

The U.P. 200 and Midnight Run are finally here.

Within the next hour, both races will be underway.

But before the sled dogs could take off tonight, they had to get checked out this morning.

13 veterinarians examined every 4-legged athlete that’ll be racing tonight, including looking at their legs and feet.

Head veterinarian Paul Gibbons says once they’re examined, the sled dogs are marked.

The colored mark is proof to race officials that all the dogs competing have been checked out beforehand and are fit to compete.

The Midnight Run started at 6 down in Gwinn; the 200 gets underway shortly after 7 in Marquette.

The Midnight Run finishes tomorrow in Munising, and the 200 will wrap up Sunday morning in Marquette.
