Spalding Man Pleads to 10-Year-Old Sexual Assault
A Menominee County man avoids a sexual assault trial in Delta County by pleading guilty to a lesser charge.
53-year-old Stephen Granquist of Spalding will be sentenced on March 1st.
He’s pleaded no contest to attempted criminal sexual conduct-2nd degree assault.
The incident happened in Rock in May of 2000.
It involved a girl who was under the age of 13 at the time.
State Police from the Gladstone Post say it first came to light in the fall of 2008, when law enforcement downstate got a report about it.
Police arrested Granquist last year, and he was scheduled to go to trial yesterday for 1st-degree criminal sexual conduct.
The lesser charge could still place him in prison for up to 2 and a half years.
