NMU Martin Luther King Day Open Mic

NMU students also take time to remember Dr. King’s life and the struggle for greater civil rights.

Northern Michigan University’s Multicultural Education Center put on an open mic event this afternoon, allowing students to share poems, quotations, essays or short stories about King, civil rights or equality.

NMU’s MLK Week continues Wednesday, when political journalist Bakari Kitwana will discuss King’s legacy and impact on current cultures.

The Multicultural Education Center is also collecting donations for domestic violence shelters, honoring King’s legacies of nonviolence and of giving back to the community.
