Former Alpha Clerk Pleads Not Guilty to Embezzlement

A former village official in Iron County will go back to court January 19th.

That’s when 37-year-old Tommie McCarthy will have his pre-trial conference in his embezzlement case.

He used to be the village clerk in Alpha.

McCarthy is accused of embezzlement of $100,000 or more, embezzlement by a public officer and embezzlement of taxes or other public money.

He’s pleaded not guilty and also waived his right to have a preliminary exam.

State Troopers from the Iron River Post have said McCarthy was still living in Alpha, and serving as the village clerk, at the time of the alleged incident.

He now lives in Niagara, Wisconsin, and police there arrested him in September.
