Marquette County Trying to Fill Mangum Farm

Marquette County is looking to other counties to help fill the new Community Corrections Detention Center.

County Board Chair Gerry Corkin recently met with his Delta County counterpart, Tom Elegeert, and Delta County Sheriff Gary Ballweg.

The talks are in a preliminary stage.

There are quite a few variables that would need to be worked out.

But Marquette County is offering to help Delta County relieve overcrowding by sending inmates north to the Community Corrections Detention Center.

The former Mangum Farm state prison camp closed 5 years ago.

But after renovations, it re-opened as a minimum-security jail facility in July with the new name.

At the moment, more than 50 of its 80 beds are empty.
