DEQ Hosts Humboldt Mill Hearing

Lots of people across the region concerned about mining are gathering in Ishpeming Township tonight.

The DEQ is holding a public hearing there right now on Kennecott’s mining and air use permits for the Humboldt Mill.

DEQ staffers are at Westwood High School to answer questions regarding the agency’s reviews.

Kennecott Minerals bough the old Humboldt Mill last year.

The company plans to use the mill to grind rocks extracted from the ground at the proposed Eagle Mine so it can get copper and nickel ore out of the rocks.

The public hearing runs until 10 tonight.

UGN News is there right now, and we’ll have more about it for you tonight at 10 and 11.
