Army Honor Guard Accident

2 soldiers in the U.S. Army Honor Guard are recovering tonight after a car wreck in the eastern U.P. this morning.

State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post say it happened on I-75 in Kinross at about 7 this morning.

Staff Sergeants Warren Washington and Randall Barkley are both stationed at Fort Leonard, Missouri.

They were in Chippewa County for Army Specialist Brandon Steffey’s funeral, which was yesterday.

And they got into the 1-car accident near the intersection with M-80.

Washington and Barkley were both taken to War Memorial Hospital in the Soo with non-life-threatening injuries.

There’s no word on how they’re doing.

Steffey was from the Soo.

He died a week ago Sunday in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan at the age of 23.
