Hancock Fatal Fire Suspect Arrested

A man who used to live in a Hancock apartment building is arrested for setting the building on fire back in July.

Hancock Police say 47-year-old Ronald Michael Kemppainen lived at 116 Quincy Street at the time of the fire there.

That blaze killed 4 people.

Kemppainen now lives in Calumet.

He was arrested there Friday night and and arraigned this morning.

Kemppainen is charged with 4 counts of homicide and 1 count of arson of a dwelling.

If he’s convicted, the homicide counts could result in a life sentence.

The arson count could net him up to 20 years.

Kemppainen has his preliminary exam in the case set for November 16th, 2 weeks from today.
