Electric Co-Op Says It’s Buying Competitor

A Chippewa County utility company is trying to reach out to more customers by buying a competitor.

The Cloverland Electric Co-Op is based in Dafter.

The company says they’ve reached a deal to buy Edison Sault Electric from WE Energies.

The members of the co-op and federal regulators still have to approve it.

If they do, the sale should be complete by the middle of next year.

Right now, Cloverland serves just under 20,000 homes and businesses in the eastern U.P.

If the co-op gets to combine with Edison Sault, it would more than double in size and serve about 42,000 customers.
