New Charges for Man Acquitted of Horse Cruelty

The Chicago man acquitted last week in the Rapid River horse cruelty case is in trouble with the law again.

75-year-old Marvin Harris is 1 of 10 people accused of taking part in a $35 million tax fraud ring.

Federal prosecutors say it involves more than 3,300 forged federal and state income tax returns.

The returns are said to have been filed using the identities of federal inmates without their knowledge.

Harris has pleaded not guilty in federal court to 1 count of conspiracy to defraud the U.S., 3 counts of mail fraud, 2 counts of interstate commercial carrier fraud and 1 count of wire fraud.

He has a status hearing October 6th but he’s free on his own recognizance for now.
