UP Hospice Summit

Representatives from UP Politicians were on hand for an educational session on hospice care and its importance.

The regional reps from Michigan Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, along with a rep for Congressman Bart Stupak were joined by several UP hospice providers for an informational summit. The bulk of the presentations focused on some common misunderstandings regarding the goals of most hospices.

The state budget includes funding for the Hospice Medicaid Benefit, which can cover costs for potions of care for hospice patients. The providers hope that the politicians stay aware of how important every dollar is.

Michigan has well over 110 hospice providers serving more than 42,000 patients throughout the state.
