Ironwood Plastics Employees Returning

A western U.P. business is seeing a rising tide.

And it’s leading them to bring back some laid-off employees.

Ironwood Plastics laid off 25 people in March, about one-sixth of its work force.

But now they’re bringing some of those people back.

More than half their business is with automotive suppliers.

And with the Cash for Clunkers program pushing auto sales up, demand is rising for the customized plastic parts they make.

They’ve also gotten another order to build ‘smart meters’.

Those are electric meters that utility companies can access remotely and can also give homeowners real-time information on how much power they use.

Ironwood Plastics also had rolling layoffs last December where most employees took every other week off.
