North Star Academy Still Needs Temporary Home

The start of the school year is less than 2 months away.

And a public charter school in Marquette Township still needs to find a temporary home to start the year.

North Star Academy’s new elementary school wing will still be under construction on Wright Street when the new school year begins.

School officials initially planned on using NMU’s Jacobetti Center temporarily.

They were in talks with NMU about renting space there.

But contrary to recent published reports, that’s not looking like a viable option.

North Star CEO Karen Anderson says they’ve hit a snag at the Jacobetti Center with fire safety issues.

But the school board is staying optimistic, and Anderson says parents have been very supportive while they look at other options.

The target date for North Star’s new elementary school to open is November 1st.
