Making Attractive Downtowns

People from across the state who work to improve downtown areas come to Marquette to learn from each other.

The Michigan Downtown Association met for its annual summer conference.

45 people, representing communities from all over the state, got together at the Landmark Inn.

They were there to network with each other and share ideas about what’s worked in their own communities.

Michigan Downtown Association executive director Sara Follan says the greatest challenge is to make vibrant, livable downtown areas that make nearby residents want to come there.

Making attractive living spaces available and making downtowns a center for business-related and cultural events helps.

The group meets 4 times a year, and the next one will be in September in Lansing.
