Marquette Man Accused of Street Assault

A Marquette man is facing multiple charges after an alleged assault.

City police say it’s 39-year-old Michael Pelto.

He was arrested downtown shortly after 2am yesterday.

Pelto had allegedly attacked a woman he met outside a bar.

Several men saw it and went to help.

Pelto is then said to have attacked those men.

Police ordered him to the ground.

But they say he didn’t cooperate and broke free from attempts to handcuff him.

Police say they had to use a taser on him to take him into custody.

He’s charged with 3 counts of misdemeanor assault and battery, 1 count of misdemeanor drunk and disorderly conduct and 2 felony counts of resisting or obstructing an officer.

Pelto is in the Marquette County Jail on $6,000 bond.

His preliminary exam is June 8th.
