Plastics Plant Land Sale Approved
Ishpeming’s city council reverses course on the controversial land sale for a new plastics plant.
At the end of a closed session late yesterday, the council voted 4-1 to sell the property.
City businessman Bob Airaudi is buying about 3 acres near the old Mather ‘A’ Mine.
He’s paying $14,000 up front, and he’ll get the deed in 2 years.
Until then, he’ll lease the land for $100 per month.
The council approved the sale last year, but Airaudi never signed a purchase agreement.
He asked them again in April, and then again earlier this month.
But the council shot him down both of those times, citing a lack of trust after he left them in the lurch last summer.
