State Police Sued After Luce County Crash

The State Police face a civil lawsuit from a fatal accident in late January.

The county prosecutor’s office says late at night, 2 troopers from the Newberry Post were chasing a big rig on M-28 in Pentland Township.

The truck was speeding, ran a stop sign and ran a car off the road.

The troopers were going more than 100 miles an hour, with headlights and tail lights on.

But their overhead emergency lights were off.

23-year-old Michael Jago II of Newberry was on County Road 403 when he pulled his pickup truck through the intersection into the troopers’ path.

He died, and now his widow is suing the State Police.

His father, Michael Jago, Sr., is Luce County’s undersheriff.

The state troopers were seriously hurt, with 1 in critical condition.

They won’t face any criminal charges.

The semi driver they were chasing was never caught.
