Jail Improvements On Tap

The renovations of the Marquette County Jail and the former Mangum Prison Farm are finally in the works.

Plans are being bid on right now for the project, which would double the amount of inmates that could be housed to 160.

Mangum Farm would mean 80 new beds for low-risk criminals.

It would also provide space for treatment programs that the Sheriff’s Department no longer has space to provide at the current jail.

The jail would also see some security-related changes because it would house more serious crimes.

The county board set aside $779,000 for the project.

The bidding process for the contractors closes in about 2 weeks.

After the county board decides to award a bid, the entire project will take about 5 months.
