Engineered Machine Products Cuts Hours

It’s an all-too-familiar story in the U.P. as of late.

Another area company is making cutbacks to its work force.

The only silver lining to this cloud is that at least it’s not layoffs this time.

Engineered Machine Products is a company headquartered in Escanaba.

They make cooling pumps and oil pumps for diesel engines.

The company is saying most of its employees have just had their hours cut from 5-day weeks down to 4 days.

The company’s president and CEO says it’s because of falling demand for their products, brought on by the general economic slump.

EMP’s advanced products division isn’t affected, but everyone else is having their work week reduced from 40 hours to 32.
