American Legion U.P. Tour

The leadership of the Michigan American Legion is trying to get a feel for what U.P. veterans need.

The Legion’s annual trip around the U.P. makes a stop in Marquette.

The heads of the state American Legion, Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the Legion all toured the Jacobetti Home for Veterans.

The Legion’s annual U.P. Mid-Winter Conference is this weekend in Gladstone.

They’ll come up with solutions to veterans’ issues, like finding ways to fundraise.

Michigan American Legion State Commander Bill Anderson says he’s optimistic about the Legion having a good relationship with the Obama White House.

He says he thinks that because of the new President’s frequently-expressed opinion that Abraham Lincoln is an Presidential example worth following.

Lincoln was one of the most veteran-friendly Presidents the country has ever had.

They also had in mind something that First Lady Michelle Obama said yesterday — that when one person goes off to war or returns home from war, the entire family goes through the same journey.

The Sault Ste. Marie Sons of the American legion even sent along a $1,000 check.

It’s a gift to the Jacobetti Home, and it’ll be used for resident programs.
