Ice Fishing Business Picking Up

If you drive by Teal Lake, you’ll notice ice fishing season is definitely in full swing in the area.

But with the poor economy and frigid temperatures, some may wonder how sales are doing for the sport.

Ishpeming’s Wilderness Sports has a good idea.

With Heikki Lunta Winterfest in Negaunee over the weekend, and based on recent sales, manager Ernie Lindsey says he’s optimistic for a strong season.

The temperatures and the bumpy economy aren’t helping.

But Lindsey thinks ice fishing activity will continue to rise, based on a recent trend he says he’s noticed of ice fishermen staying local.

The most popular items that have been picked up lately are shanties, sleds, poles and lots of bait.
