State Green Certification for Iron River Motel

An Iron County motel gets a thumbs-up from the state for efforts to cut down on waste and energy use.

The Lakeshore Motel in Iron River has earned Green Lodging Michigan Partner certification from the state Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth.

The accreditation is for hotel, motel and restaurant managers who are committed to green business practices, making environmental and economic goals a high priority.

The Lakeshore Motel has a linen and towel re-use program, as well as a recycling program for guests and staff.

The motel also uses Energy Star lighting and equipment to reduce utility costs and power use.

Green Lodging Michigan is a joint effort between the DELEG and the Michigan DEQ.

It’s meant to encourage the hospitality industry to conserve and protect the state’s natural resources while lowering utility costs.
