Thanksgiving Traffic Deaths Up in 2008

State police urge care on the roads after a holiday weekend results in more deaths than in the past.

Traffic fatalities over the Thanksgiving weekend are up this year.

12 people in Michigan lost their lives in 9 different accidents.

State police say there were 11 deaths over last year’s holiday period.

Only 1 of the 12 victims was known to be wearing a seatbelt.

State police are urging motorists to use caution on the roads as the 2008 holiday season rolls along.

They also stress that calling a taxi or designating a sober driver after a holiday party are necessary precautions.

Alcohol use was a factor in only 1 of the 9 fatal crashes.
