Marquette Mountain Kicks Off Ski Season

A blanket of snow is already covering the U.P.

That means local winter tourist stops are hoping the snow continues coming this way.

This is Marquette Mountain’s 50th anniversary year.

They’re already seeing a good early turnout of skiers and snowboarders for the holiday weekend.

Marquette Mountain opened for the season last weekend.

So far, the numbers that are coming out to glide down the slops are great.

The weather didn’t cooperate today, with temperatures above freezing.

But general manager Vern Barber is optimistic that those temps will soon drop, putting then in favor of the mountain’s other runs.

He hopes the weather will help them get 3 runs open by tomorrow, and possibly 4 or 5 available next week.

Marquette Mountain is open Thursdays through Saturdays until mid-December.

After that, the ski hill will be open 7 days a week.
