Downstate Parole Absconder Hides in U.P. State Park

A man from well downstate flees his parole by coming to Marquette County, but he’s back in custody.

The county sheriff’s office says it’s 37-year-old Thomas Ellis of Ann Arbor.

They, and Forsyth Township police, arrested him yesterday at the DNR’s Horseshoe Lake Campground.

Ellis is believed to be a parole absconder out of the Department of Corrections Tether Unit in Lansing.

Police were told Ellis had been causing problems in the park at the campground.

They found him walking in the park at about 12:30 yesterday afternoon.

Ellis was arrested without incident and taken to the Marquette County Jail.

He’s a registered sex offender out of Washtenaw County.

He has armed robbery and 4th-degree criminal sexual conduct convictions.

CO’s at Marquette Branch Prison are taking custody of him and returning him to the prison system.
